Open dialogues about media literacy and factual information can create conflict, why does this happen?
When people stick with the information they hear, it’s because it is what they want to hear, even if it is not the truth. Misinformation is prevalent nowadays because sometimes the media will hide some key information or fore more views then make up some fake news. However, people don’t realize that their beliefs are based on inaccurate information and when the truth is made public, they have difficulty accepting it thus leading to conflict. When their beliefs are challenged, such as when the government is building more places where smoking is not allowed, and those who smoke feel they are being challenged, this can cause dissatisfaction.
What is the benefit of having a PLN that values media literacy?
One of the benefit of having a PLN is the professional development. Since a PLN that values media literacy can help people develop new skills and knowledge. More students and workers can benefit from such a PLN because they can learn more professional information, and they can derive different ideas and sources of information based on different questions. Therefore, a PLN that values media literacy becomes more important to the professional development. Moreover, having a PLN that values media literacy can improve the truthfulness of the information, and they won’t make up some fake news for any reason.

Thank you for sharing your perspective Jack in your blog post. I agree that it’s important to be open-minded and not just stick to hearing what we want to hear. It’s especially important to see both sides of an argument, as this can help us better understand others’ perspectives and potentially challenge our own beliefs. For example, in a political discussion, someone who only listens to news sources that align with their beliefs may not be getting the full picture. By seeking out and listening to diverse perspectives, they can gain a more nuanced understanding of the issue at hand. I also agree with the importance of having a PLN that values media literacy. This can help us navigate the overwhelming amount of information available online and prevent the spread of false information. However, it’s also crucial for individuals to develop their own media literacy skills, as this can help them critically evaluate information and make informed decisions. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Hi! I like how your blog post showcases how misinformation creates conflict on social media through reactions to perceived challenge. I think this is especially represented by how people seek out information that aligns with their beliefs rather than seeking out factual information. I also agree with your point that PLNs can be really useful for professional development, thus the impact of social media comes from how the individual interacts with the platform. Thanks for sharing!

Hi, I really like what you are writting. You discuss how open dialogues about media literacy and factual information can create conflict. It suggests that people tend to stick with the information that aligns with their beliefs, even if it is inaccurate or false. The prevalence of misinformation in the media contributes to this issue, and when people’s beliefs are challenged with accurate information, they may struggle to accept it, which can lead to conflict.
